Before digital was a “big thing,” we had film and a dark room. I LIVED in that dark room, and photography was the only “advanced” class I took in school. I can honestly say, I have not dropped the camera since that first day of photography class. My style has changed and evolved, but what remains is my love for capturing life with light.

Now, 18 years later, I am married to my best friend and gorgeous hunk of a husband, with four amazing gorgeous babies and one in heaven. We are a couple who fell in love over fifteen years ago at Red Robin (yes, the restaurant!). After dating for a little over a year, we just knew it was the “real deal.” After getting married almost thirteen years ago, we are still the best of friends!
I absolutely love to travel and explore new places in our world. I have photographed weddings all over the world. I have a huge spot in my heart for destination elopements.
When not photographing weddings, my husband and I are usually chasing around our three littles. William, Samuel,Hannah, and Jacob are the absolute light of our lives. Our family is all about playing games, baking together and embracing this thing called life!

“I had an amazing experience with Elizabeth and Birchwood studio. She wasn’t even my coordinator but because she had helped with so many weddings, she knew how they flowed and what’s work and hasn’t in the past. She was willing to chat on many occasions through issues I was having and even set up my entire timeline for the day of my wedding so things flowed well, taking the stress off of me. I’ve been in very few weddings and had NO idea what to expect. The questions that come at you “what time is cake, when would you like the father daughter dance, where should this go,” and on and on and she was there through it all. We ran into an issue with my venue losing water and while we lost almost 2 hrs of photo time she managed it all so it didn’t ruin my husband not seeing me until I walked down the aisle, and she did it with grace while very pregnant. One of my favorite part is that her husband was the 2nd photographer and watching them interact and how much love they have for each other put into a business of something that they both love together, well, it’s nothing short of amazing. If you’re going to have anyone following you around for 12+ hrs Birchwood studio is who you want to invest in. You start with a photographer and you end up with a new friend. The fact that she is taking the time to improve the services she offers, taking on more and knowing how effortlessly she makes it look, your day is guaranteed to go off without a hitch.”

“I am so thankful to have chosen Elizabeth to photograph our recent destination wedding and upcoming reception. She was absolutely amazing and went above and beyond in so many ways to make sure the day went exactly as planned. Elizabeth is so talented and puts her heart into capturing every special moment. She made sure every detail was absolutely perfect and put us at ease the entire day! We are so happy she was recommended to us and can’t say enough about her passion for photography and documenting those precious moments – we highly recommend Birchwood Studio!”

“It’s so hard to find the words. Elizabeth and Joel are like beautiful additions to your family the day of. They will laugh with you, cry with you, play with your children, and keep you laughing and smiling through all your wild emotions–all while working so incredibly hard (and seemingly effortlessly) to bring you the most magical photos you can imagine.
Our wedding was short, impromptu and really had no time for photographs like traditional weddings. Elizabeth and Joel just went with it, in spite of desperately hoping for a timeline so they could fulfill their end of the contract.
Looking at the photos, you’d never know that it was near the end of the day, that I was exhausted and that they had only just found the perfect spot and lighting to shoot, because I wouldn’t let them take me away from the fun to take photos of us. Thankfully, she made sure to get my mom to help reel me in, so I could have the most magical day of my life forever captured in photos that I can look back at for the rest of my life.
I am crying right now, just thinking of how thankful I am for this never-ending gift. Birchwood Studio was put on this earth to shoot photos and to give this gift again and again to those that come to them. May God continue to bless them and the lives they touch.”

“Where to even begin…. From our first conversation with Elizabeth, we instantly connected. I knew I would feel completely comfortable around her on our wedding day. Our engagement session wasn’t just a photo shoot. It was an afternoon of laughter and getting to know each other. On our wedding day, Elizabeth and Joel were not just another vendor. They were our friends and family. They laughed with us, cried with us, and shared in our special moments. In every way possible, Birchwood went above and beyond. There are many photographers out there, but I am confident that Elizabeth and Joel provide an experience unlike any other. We now have the most beautiful images to remember our wedding day. As an added bonus, we never have to search for another photographer again.”

“Can you recall the last photograph you couldn’t stop looking at? Like really couldn’t stop looking at. Or the last moment someone captured that brought all of the emotion rushing back as if you were reliving it? If you’re like me or my wife, your answer would be a profound no. That’s before we met Elizabeth and Joel, owners of Birchwood Studio.
Planning a wedding wasn’t our forte, in fact we originally planned to elope. We already had everything we wanted—each other. Plus, as everyone knows, weddings are expense and they pass by in a blink of an eye! That was our perspective beforehand; now it is completely opposite, and we have Elizabeth, Joel, and Birchwood Studio to thank because of it.
Having little to no experience planning an event, every step was something new for us. One of the most difficult parts was finding a photographer. After searching through 20 different photographer portfolios online, we felt a bit discouraged; spending thousands of dollars for an overwhelming “meh” wasn’t exactly what we had in mind. We even considered asking my wife’s 15 year old cousin if he would use our iPhone to take pictures. That all changed when we found Elizabeth and Joel.
Within 3 seconds of looking at their website, both of us said, “YESSS” out loud. Everything about their pictures was striking; strikingly different, strikingly better! We almost couldn’t believe it at first glance. If you’re wondering what I mean, pull up a random picture from another photographer and compare it. The clarity, resolution, depth, color, positioning—everything is so much better. It was far beyond anything either of us had seen.
We immediately reached out to Elizabeth and she promptly responded. Luckily we were able to hire her because her schedule was entirely booked—in fact I think she made an exception to work with us. From here everything only continued to exceed anything we could have ever imagined. From a professional perspective, working with Elizabeth couldn’t have been better. She was prompt, organized, and went out of her way to ensure that she knew exactly what we hoped to capture. From a personal perspective, her personality, compassion, and love immediately made us feel special and trust her. On more than one occasion, she went out of her way, taking time away from her husband and young children to make sure our day was perfect.
During our day, she brought a second shooter, and her husband who is the videographer. She spent all day with us and never missed a moment. And although she had another shoot scheduled early the next morning, she had previews available the SAME night as our wedding, with more and more each day following. Not even two weeks later, Elizabeth had hundreds of perfect pictures, and Joel produced a video of us that left us in tears at their studio, and tears as we write this.
We never imagined, or could have imagined, an experience like this— for our wedding day, or anything. Everything that Elizabeth, Joel, and Birchwood Studio captured is so powerful that it feels like we are reliving it.
We could go on and on, and it still couldn’t describe the depth of our gratitude for everything that they did for us. If you are looking for someone who is incredibly kind, loving, giving, and extremely talented, Elizabeth, Joel, and Birchwood Studio is your best bet; they are worth every penny. We can’t imagine being any luckier than to have Elizabeth and Joel help our day last forever.”
